OOC PREFERENCES:
•CONTACT METHOD: Plurk (
omnomivore), AIM (DBYumeAurora), or email (daybreak.sleepers@gmail.com) are all fine, or just a PM!
•THREAD-JACKING: Almost always fine if it makes sense/is a public scene!
•FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: I'm totally okay with genre-savvy people recognizing Newt as a character from the Harry Potter universe, or even as the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but seeing how new the movie is, please check with me before assuming your character knows the exact events of the film.
•BACKTAGGING: Always
•AVOIDED TOPICS: None at this time.
•PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: She/her
IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•CURRENT CANON POINT: The end of the film Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
•PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Newt is tall, gangly, and ginger. Unlike many wizards, he dresses in relatively normal (if unfashionably colorful) clothing for the 1920s, but his hair's always a mess, and his bowtie is often untied. He always carries an old-fashioned leather suitcase, and his hands are covered in nicks and punctures in varying stages of healing. He's stiff and awkward around other people, often not even looking people in the eye when he's talking, but he's actually quite spry when he needs to be. He smells like... well, like a guy who single-handedly keeps and cares for a bunch of exotic animals in a magic suitcase. Magic keeps it not overpowering, but he can definitely get a bit... musky.
•DEMEANOR:
Around other people, Newt is shy and awkward. His body language is always uncomfortable and closed off, he doesn't make much eye contact, and he often appears to be lost in his own thoughts. Understandably, that means his interpersonal skills are... lacking. He's soft-spoken and even tempered, and exceptionally kind and patient with creatures - people included - who are hurt or suffering. He's rarely physically affectionate with people, but his beasts get all the snuggles they may want (some of them don't, and that's okay too).
•ABILITIES:
Newt is a wizard from the Harry Potter world, with a knack especially for charms, potions, and (unsurprisingly) the care and keeping of magical beasts. He can cast a wide range of spells and hold his own in a dual, at least defensively. He's especially skilled at reading animal body language and tends to have an unusually good rapport with many creatures, and can even get some of them to perform complex behaviors like aiding him in a fight.
•MEDICAL INFORMATION:
He says wizards have "slightly different physiologies" than muggles, but this mostly seems to pertain to how muggles react differently to, for example, bites from magical creatures than humans. The extent this affects normal medicine is unclear, but I suspect minimal.
•CABIN INFORMATION:
The door to Newt's cabin is a simple, wooden door to a New York apartment. A woman's apartment. With a cute kitchen and flowery wallpaper and big double doors opening into a bedroom with two twin beds. There's a vanity and fashion magazines lying about and a dress mannequin. No sign of a male presence at all. Basically, this picture.
•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS:
Anything involving unnecessary cruelty to creatures or people, or unsustainable hunting practices, exotic pet trade, etc.
IC PERMISSIONS:
•MENTAL: Probably yes, but talk to me first.
•MIMICRY: Probably yes, but talk to me first.
•VIOLENCE: Anything minor yes, talk to me if there's a chance for major injury or death.
•MAGIC: Anything minor yes, anything major probably yes but talk to me, please.
•DEBATE: Definitely.
•OTHER / NOTES: Harry Potter spell list, for reference.
